ITN is committed to a multi-cultural workforce that reflects the diverse audience that watches its programmes.  It believes it has a duty to report UK news, and world events in a measured and responsible way.
We have undertaken a number of initiatives to help us appeal to all sections of UK society:

David Mannion – Editor-in-Chief of ITV News, said in an interview earlier this year: “Newsrooms need to reflect the diversity of the people that are our customers, and we just don’t do that yet. Can you imagine a newsroom that was all women or all men? You would clearly get a less holistic view of life. It’s the same with people of different ethnic backgrounds.
“We are a commercial organisation. If we are not delivering news that is relevant to great swathes of the population who are not white or middle class, those viewers will turn elsewhere.”

Robin Elias is Managing Editor of ITV News, and represents ITN on the CDN. He said: “We have come a long way on diversity, but there is still a lot to do. I don’t feel we can be complacent until all cultural backgrounds are reflected in our Newsrooms, and – crucially – in the more senior, decision-making positions.”
