Diversity Strategy
CEO Strategy Meeting February 2009
CEOs and senior executives from all the major UK broadcasters came together on the 11th February to agree a common diversity strategy for the UK broadcasting industry.
Individual actions
Each broadcaster brought to the table their own Diversity Action Plans (DAPs) for 2009. The DAPs – published separately on this site - demonstrated a great deal of synergy across the industry and will be reviewed at the next CEO gathering in September 2009.
Collective actions
The group also discussed a number of collective actions including:
Senior Mentoring Scheme
In November 2008 the Cultural Diversity Network launched a unique black and ethnic minority senior mentoring scheme. The scheme aims to address the lack of diversity in the senior management of media organisations throughout the UK. The CEOs discussed the progress of the scheme and supported the idea of running the scheme again in 2009/10.
CDN / PACT Diversity Pledge
CDN members believe that it is important that the broadcasting industry represents accurately and authentically the richness of modern British society. Half of television production now takes place in the Independent Sector at a value of £1.35billion each year.
Therefore as the CDN members felt it was essential to work alongside the Independent Television Production Sector, if we are to significantly improve the diversity of the industry overall. The proposed Diversity Pledge forms one part of that process and will be launched in April 2009.
The CEOs will meet again in September 2009 to review progress against the individual and collective plans.
